Livingston Skatepark
Opened in 1981, at a time when most commercial skateparks were closing and was one of the most important facilities in Britain during a critical period in the development of skateboarding. It is an example of a free, unsupervised facility which achieved international status. The skatepark was extended during the 1990s with the addition of some smaller bowls. A further extension was added in 2013 adding a fullpipe, pools, square bowl and a new smaller street / beginners area.
Level Skate Park
Completely refurbished by Freestyle, the Level Skate Park is a 1,400m sq. polished concrete park. Opened in June 2013 it’s now the centre of the skate scene in Brighton and for good reason. The Level Skate Park itself sits on a triangular site and has both a plaza style street section and a transition area. The street section holds everything that a street skater could possibly need and features banks, hips, stair sets, rails, kickers, flat and curved ledges, a pyramid, a pole jam and some pretty unique contours that you’ll struggle to find anywhere else.
At the centre of all of this is the transition section that focuses around two bowls. The main bowl section has a very unique shape and with various depths, a roll in and coping around the edge makes for an interesting ride. There’s a huge amount of lines that can be ridden here including a nice spine between the two main sections of the bowl. The other part of the transition section is two concrete mini ramps facing each other to form a half pipe with one bowled side.
This park has been a huge success since the rebuild and the street section is well laid out with a lot of space. You could spend endless hours here learning and mastering the lines but at the same time it’s a great place to learn the basics, none of the obstacles are too challenging.
There’s is a huge amount of flexibility on the lines that you can ride and whether its street or bowls you’re into, the Level Skate Park will keep you coming back for more!
Stoke Plaza Skatepark
Stoke Plaza is a huge all concrete course that was built in 2010 and can be found in Central Forest Park and is solely a street plaza with a small bowl section at the side.
The plaza area is massive and is centralised around a focal point in the middle and set on multiple levels with flat banks, stair sets, rails, hubbas, manny pads and ledges transitioning between them. The bowl section at the back is made up of three circular bowls all joined together that are each at differing depths with some nice bumps and corners between them to pump along.
Stoke Plaza is an amazing facility and if you are a street skater this is a must visit. There are endless numbers of lines that can be hit here and a lot of space between obstacles to adjust between tricks. The surfaces are smooth and fast, making this a must visit spot whether you are from the area or beyond.
