Salomon Sick Stick Snowboard 2021
WOLLIE NYVELTS GAME-CHANGING TERRAIN KILLER
It’s been over 10 years since Salomon introduced the Sickstick to an unsuspecting world and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Wollie Nyvelt’s unique creation has revolutionised all-terrain snowboard design. As one of the first boards to blend powder board performance with a freestyle inspired ride anything versatility, started a revolution that changed the very face of snowboarding. Built around an advanced tapered twin shape, the 2021 Salomon Sickstick rides like a directional freeride board; however, when you want to play around, it transforms into what can only be described as a freestyle board. It’s this game-changing ability to effortlessly mutate from one board to another that makes the Sickstick such a unique snowboard. Combine that advanced shape with the high-performance Ghost Green construction and advanced Quadralizer sidecut, and you get a stunning board that not only rides everything you can throw at it but ride it well.
Rider Style: All Terrain
The Sick Stick is aimed at experienced all-terrain riders who are looking to push their riding to new levels, both on the mountain and out in the backcountry.
Rock Out Camber
Shape Overview: Tapered Twin
The Sickstick is built around a state of the art chassis penned by the hand of freeride legend Wollie Nyvelt. This unique design gives the board its unrivalled balance of freestyle control, all-terrain versatility and powder board float. The extended nose profile delivers effortless lift and float while the cut back tail sinks the tail and adds drive to the back of the board. However at first appearance, the Sickstick looks like any other directional board but look a little closer, and you’ll see that the tail profile mimics that of the nose and that it’s a twin, albeit a tapered twin. However, the Sickstick isn’t just about riding pow, thanks to the advanced Quadralizer sidecut which blends Equaliser lines with Quadratic sections, it still delivers a powerful and rock-solid ride on the piste.
Profile: Rock Out Camber
To ensure that the Sickstick delivers excellent performance across all types of riding and terrain, Salomon utilises their state of the art Rock Out Camber. This complex profile combines rocker zones at the contact points with camber under the feet and a flat section between the bindings. This unique profile delivers a versatile ride, ensuring that no matter what or where you ride, you know that this board is never going to feel wanting.
Internally the Sick Stick is jam-packed with some of the most up to date construction available, so it’s no surprise as to why it rides so well. Heading this up is the Popster Ghost Green Core. This combination of sustainable woods combined with lightweight paulownia creates the perfect balance of pop and feel. That pop is perfectly matched to the board thanks to Salomon’s unique Popster core profiling which manipulates core thickness through the length, controlling how and where the board flexes. This is all then wrapped with Salomon’s ABC Wrapper structural layers. These utilise structural bamboo veneers to reduce the amount of the BA MD fibreglass and resin content in each board by up to 40%. Also, the Sick Sticks standard ABS sidewalls are replaced by bamboo with cork inserts for additional dampening. This environmentally sound construction not only cuts back on petrochemical products used in the board, but it also steps up pop and power.
Base: Sintered EG
To finish off the Sickstick’s high-end construction, Salomon utilises their tough and fast sintered EG base with fine stone finish. This Galium infused Electra base is both super-tough and super-fast, ensuring that this is one of the fastest boards on the mountain.
