Shape Overview

The Hovercrafts unique directional shape is the result of an improbable mating of two very different snowboard design philosophies that combine to create one revolutionary snowboard shape. The front of the board features an extended blunt tip nose shape featuring extended contact points. This innovative design gives unrivalled lift and float in deep snow. From the contact point’s back, the Hovercraft changes tact and becomes a far more piste orientated machine. With a shorter stiffer tail and tight radius sidecut, featuring the Multi-Contact Traction Tech 2 Sidecut, you get a far more robust and stable feel on piste combined with drive and power out the back of the board (1). At the far ends of the sidecut, the radius is incrementally increased as the edge reaches the contact point. Gradually increasing the sidecut radius towards the contact point delivers smoother turn initiation and exit as the edge tracks in and out of the snow with a less abrupt transition (2).

Profile

The Hovercraft utilises Jones’s freeride specific Directional Rocker profile. This features an extended rocker zone at the nose that matches the boards more extended nose profile. This then blends into a set-back camber running from the ends of the contact points into the short low profile rocker at the tail. This profile allows the board to float effortlessly in deep snow while still delivering a powerful and dynamic ride on hardpack terrain. The shorter rocker at the tail when combined with the stiffer flex helps create a more responsive and stable feel at the back of the board while increasing power out the end of the turn.

3D Contour Base 3.0

The Hovercrafts Contour 3.0 base is the most powder focussed version of Jones’s innovative base profile. Featuring 7mm of spoon bevel in the nose, 7mm in the tail and a 1mm deep Speed Channel between the tail edges. Concave Speed Channel pushes loose snow out from under the board for added speed.

Construction

It’s what’s inside the Hovercraft that has been the key to its stunning success. It would have been all too easy to pack it full of tech and make it a real powerhouse of a board, but thankfully Jones didn’t go that route. Instead, and in a stroke of genius they decided to give it a more mellow playful ride, and it’s this that makes the Hovercraft such a fantastic board. Heading this up is the durable Classic core, constructed from premium poplar, it creates a soft flexing board without compromising strength and durability. To this, Jones then add structural layers formed from bi-ax glass. It’s these torsionally more forgiving layers that give the Hovercraft that unique playful and effortless performance that makes this board so unique. However, don’t think the Hovercraft is a noodle, thanks to the wood veneer top sheet it’s also got a whole load of life in there. So, it might be smooth and easy to ride, but push it a little harder, and it’s going to blow your mind.

Base

Sintered 8000 Base. New super durable material made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) and carbon. This base is easily repairable, highly wax absorbent and wicked fast.
