LAAX Open 2022 Results

The 2022 LAXX Open was filled with fantastic performances. The highlight of the week was under the lights at Crap Sogn Gion for the Superpipe Night Finals. At more than a mile above sea level there was a repeat winner in Chloe Kim of the United States.

Kim is now a four-time LAAX winner and is peaking entering the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. It didn’t take long as Kim earned her win with a dominating first run. Completing the trio on the podium were Mitsuki of Japan and Queralt Casellet of Spain.

For the men, it was a blast from the past rising to the top. Nine years after his last win in LAAX, Ayumum Hirano of Japan, who also was in the 2021 Summer Olympics as a skateboarder, earned gold. Jan Scherrer took the silver, while Shuan White, a triple jump Olympic winner, secured the bronze.

In the Slopestyle, Tess Coady of Australia led after the first run and put the competition out of reach with her second run, finishing with 86.18 points. Anna Gasser of Austria earned her spot on the podium for the first time at Crap Sogn Gion in five years taking the silver. Annika Morgan of Germany edged her way for the bronze after a phenomenal second run.

The United States dominated the men’s portion of the Slopestyle, earning two of the three spots on the podium, with a fourth-place finish. Sean Fitzsimons took home gold on a day he called “brilliant”, while Staale Sandbech of Norway overtook Jack Canter for the silver.
