FINLAND

Frozen trees, sun-kissed horizons and Northern Lights – the scenery’s as beautiful as it gets. And being this far north means that Finnish ski resorts are blanketed in snow from December through to May. Quiet pistes and smaller ski areas make Finland the perfect place to learn to ski. And when you’re not on the slopes, try some wintry non-ski activities to top off a fun family adventure or couple’s getaway.

Levi

Levi is a fell located in Finnish Lapland, and the largest ski resort in Finland.
Levi is one of two locations of gondola lifts in Finland, and has been chosen the best domestic skiing resort in Finland four times.

The slopes in Levi are mostly suitable for beginners or intermediates, but there are also three black slopes for experts. The highest vertical drop is 325 m (1,066 ft) and the longest slope is 2.1 km (1.3 mi) in length. The longest ski lift is about 1,636 metres (1.017 mi) long. Levi has one superpipe, one halfpipe, two streets, two snow parks, 10 free children's slopes and seven slope restaurants.
The resort's latitude, north of the Arctic Circle, usually guarantees generous snow cover and sub-freezing temperatures (< 0 °C (32 °F)) throughout winter. It also allows for excellent chances of observing the Northern Lights.

Ruka ski resort

Ruka is full of winter fun and lappish experiences. Enjoy well maintained slopes, efficient ski lifts and stunning views. The ski season lasts more than 200 days. The multifaceted ski area is suited for children, adults, beginners and experts. Welcome to the coordinates of snow!

Ruka ski resort

As the first skiers on the mountain, we were rewarded for our early start with a truly stunning view of the sunrise over the peaks! After buckling up our skis, we headed out onto what felt like a carpet of pristine powder snow. It seemed as though we had the whole piste to ourselves as we carved our way across the untouched slopes.

We then made our way to the wonderful new Jufen lift, settling into the soft, warm seats as we made the short journey to the summit. And when we reached the top, it was bathed in glorious sunshine!

I was thrilled to return to the “Kasereck” and the “Silberstube”, which are two of my favourite slopes. With precious few skiers around apart from us, we decided to save our morning coffee break for later – and get down to some serious skiing!
