Double Dose of Great News for British Skiers
Double Dose of Great News for British Skiers and snowboarders. The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc across the globe with travel restrictions keeping winter sport lovers at home. British skiers and snowboarders received some great news as the government of the UK reduced travel restrictions.
It has been announced that travelers returning to England don’t need to be tested a few days before returning home. A test is still required upon returning, but the biggest news is that there is no longer self-isolation period after arriving home.
Those travelers that have received full vaccinations and those under the age of 18 are not required to take a test before returning to England. This takes effect for anyone arriving after 4:00 AM Friday, January 7. If they arrive after 4:00 AM on Sunday, they are required to take a lateral flow test. Before, they would have had to take a PCR test.
The second bit of fantastic news is that plenty of cold weather has returned to the Alps after an uncharacteristically warm start to the New Year. Coming with the cold temperatures is welcomed snow to the skiers and snowboarders. The fresh snow amounts averaged about 20 cm (nearly 8 inches) across the region.
This combination of added snow and reduction in travel restrictions should help improve a sluggish start to 2022 with regards to winter sports.
